Important Plan changes for 2017

The individual and family health plans for Minnesotans have changed for 2017. Here are two important features to understand:

HEALTH PLAN NETWORKS:

A health plan works with a network - a group of doctors, clinics, hospitals and other health care providers you can see for a lower cost. To get the most coverage for a health care service, you need to visit health care providers in your plan's network.

Blue Plus individual and family health plans have focused networks. This means only certain providers participate in each plan's network. Some providers are not in a plan's network, and providers in one network may not be in another network. If you visit a provider or a location that's not in your plan's focused network, you will pay much more for your care. And these cost will not count toward your in-network cost sharing (for example, your in-network deductible and out-of-pocket maximum). Be sure to find out if your doctor's in your plan's network.

Learn about these networks.

PRESCRIPTION DRUG NETWORK & COVERAGE:

Blue Plus individual and family plans have a focused pharmacy network called RxNetwork E. To get coverage for a drug, you need to visit a pharmacy in the RxNetwork E network. If you get a drug from a pharmacy that isn't in this network, you'll pay the full cost for your drug. It will also not count toward your in-network cost sharing (for example, your in-network deductible and out-of-pocket maximum).

Search the pharmacy network (PDF).

These plans also have a focused covered drug list. To get coverage for a drug, it needs to be a preferred drug on the list. The drug list is called BasicRx. If you get a drug that isn't on the BasicRx drug list or is a non-preferred drug, you'll pay the full cost for your drug. And it will not count toward your in-network cost sharing (for example, your in-network deductible and out-of-pocket maximum).

See the covered drug list (PDF).
